The Elements
Significant innovation and integration is required to deliver the above set of benefits to the customer. Some of the key elements being:
  1. Setup and operate a chain of Swasth Health Centers (SHC) which are primary care centers staffed by a qualified doctor, a nurse and a community mobiliser to provide the entire range of primary care services consultation, drugs, diagnostics, day care and preventive-promotive services. We will draw on our experience of operating such centers in our projects at urban Haryana and rural Maharashtra.
  2. Setup and operate a low cost drug supply chain which purchases drugs directly from drug manufacturers at significant low cost and supplies to the SHC. This will be on the lines of our drugs supply chain in rural Maharashtra
  3. Establish and manage a network of low cost quality hospitals and nursing homes to provide cashless and hassle-free service to members
  4. Tie-up with an insurance company to manage the risk cover in the comprehensive health product and define the process for processing claims
  5. Develop material and conduct awareness campaigns and disease management programs through the support of local community based organisations We will store, manage and analyse the information related to the above components through our IT system
Immediate Target Geography
Based on learnings and experience, we plan to launch a comprehensive health insurance product catering to the city of Mumbai - which has a population of ~15 million people with ~50% living in slums making it one of the largest concetration of low income households in the world. In addition, high disease incidences due to pollution, poor sanitation and high stress-levels make Mumbai a desirable target geography for a comprehensive health insurance product.

Replicable Unit
Our basic replicable "unit of operation" is a catchment area with a population of 300,000 low income lives of which our target is to enroll 30% of lives, i.e. 90,000 lives in the comprehensive health insurance product within 3 years of launch. By the end of 18th month, each such unit is expected to have a positive operating cash. This catchment area of 300,000 will be serviced by 10 Swasth Health Centers supervised by 2 medical supervisors. In addition, there will be 20 sales agents, supervised by 2 sales managers to drive enrollment in the health insurance product
