Principles of System Design

The key principles of our health system design are as follows:

  • Empowerment of the consumer – Decentralised decision making
We will involve the community in the management and governance of the health system. This will ensure greater acceptability and accessibility of the system in the community, leading to sustainability in the long run.
  • Centralise where either special skills are required or aggregation can help reduce cost
We are working on building a scalable and efficient information management system which can be used in all projects. At the same time we are identifying and working with training agencies which can develop training content and deliver workshops as this requires specialized skills
  • Use market based systems wherever possible to ensure scalability and sustainability
Our health system model works on the basis of partnerships to ensure scalability and sustainability. We partner with community based organizations, MFIs and cooperatives and build on their strengths.  We also partner with pre-existing health service providers like hospitals, labs and pharmacies instead of building additional infrastructure ourselves. This approach creates a scalable model which can be rapidly replicated in new geographies. The health system designed by us is also a financially sustainable model where every project eventually generates enough revenue to sustain all activities.
