Overview

We propose to design and implement a self-sustaining customized health management system based on the following principles:
  1. Cover all aspects of health management - preventive, outpatient and inpatient care:
    • Ensure significant (~30%) cost reduction for the households
    • Insulate people economically from health related events to prevent them from a poverty trap
  2. Customise the system to address the local requirements / needs of the consumers
  3. Improve treatment levels and ensure quality of delivery
  4. Improve overall health status of the community along various dimensions
  5. Increase accountability of all stakeholders
  6. Ensure financial self sustainability of the system
The quality health benefits available to enrolled consumers of such a health system would be:
  • Access to basic health services (disease prevention, curative care, OTC drugs, health promotion and referral services) through a local trained community health worker (CHW) at each village or urban unit of 2000 people
  • Outpatient consultations from empanelled doctors at 50% of current prices
  • High quality drugs available from empanelled pharmacies at 50-70% of current prices
  • Diagnostic tests from empanelled laboratories at 50-70% of current prices
  • Cashless hospitalisation with a simple pre-auth procedure to avoid members having to hunt for funds
  • Limited or no exclusions on inpatient-care benefits

Self-Sustaining Approach

We believe that a self-sustaining health system would span over the following four key areas to provide holistic solution:
  • Preventive health issues at the consumer level through awareness
  • Management of the entire provider network from end to end
  • Financially self-sustainability
  • Provision of support services to run the system
